A big lesson was learned last week.
I was determined to learn how to edit videos. There are (of course) videos in my online course, and also I believe I can learn anything. So I set a deadline that I would have my first video edited and ready for upload by Friday April 19.
And yet, on that Friday morning, I had made no progress at all. Despite multiple tutorials on YouTube (for Davinci Resolve, which I am assured is the best free software available), I still could not even make a simple cut.
So I took a deep breath, and let the whole thing go. My son’s girlfriend can in fact edit video and had offered to help; I believed I ought to pay her for her time (and still think that) but have no disposable income to do that. But the thing is: I was letting my ego and my pride stand in the way of getting something done.
Anya took precisely seven minutes to do what I had been unable to do in five days. Lessons learned were many: accept help when it is offered; don’t lose sight of the big picture; video editing is just not anything like editing text, and it is hard to learn; let something go when that is the right thing to do.
But: I have set myself a goal to learn how to edit videos by the end of the year. This thing will not defeat me!
